Phillippi Estate Park
5500 S.Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231
There are 66 acres of old oaks, meandering paths, gardens, the Edson Keith Mansion, a gazebo, the nearly 100 year old Keith Farmhouse, and lots of palms.
There is also a bustling Wednesday Farmers Market that is always colorful and fun to paint.
The Light Chasers have our shows in the Mansion but we show up many times during the year to paint this beautiful spot.
Phillippi Creek runs along one border and there are three docks to set up your easel or just sketch. You often see kayaks and canoes wandering by. There is a rose garden with statuary that is just lovely in the spring when all the roses bloom in April. There are no months where there is not some roses blooming! This is a beautiful place to paint!
Phillippi Estate Park has always been a centerpiece of Sarasota’s Arts In The Parks. You almost always will find at least a few artists sketching, painting, or taking pictures of the bird life and the sun splashed Phillippi Creek.
Light Chasers shows attracted over 2000 people last year. This year we will have our Quick Draw here, kick off our Paint Out here, and have our shows for the Master Artists, the 5th Annual Members Show and our Paint Out Gala. There is a reason…..we love painting here at Phillippi Estate Park.
Years ago artists lived in the Keith Farmhouse and had paint outs on the lawn on Sundays. Now you can find artists painting at Phillippi Estate Park almost any day. If you want quiet there are wooded paths at the back. And there is no where in the city where you can find so many different kinds of palms to paint. Dappled light challenges you all along the path behind the mansion where the old oaks are spreading wide. If you want children playing there are playgrounds. If you want quiet readers and poets writing you are likely to find those to paint as well. Phillippi Estate Park inspires the artist in all of us. Come paint here with the Light Chasers or whenever you visit paradise by the bay!
