 Paint Sarasota Paint Out

  • Paint Out Dates:  Saturday, February, 11 to Sunday, February 19, 2023

  • Entry Fee:  $35.00

  • Judging: Judging will take place before the Shows open on Wednesday, March 1st. 

  • Stamping: The work you submit for judging must be stamped on the back of your painting surface. 

       We will stamp surfaces at the Picnic Tables, which are located to the left side of the front, of the Edson Keith                   Mansion at Phillippi Estate Park.

       Stamping of painting surfaces will take place on :

       Saturday, February 11, 2023 between 9:00AM & 11:00am

       also on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 between 9:00AM & 10:00AM at the same location as above.


  • GPS: Phillippi Estate Park, 5500 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, Fl. 34231

  • Sales: Artists will keep 100% of their Sales

  • All Label information must be emailed in to the Light Chasers Email address  by February 20, 2023.

  • Information required is:

  • Show Name:   Annual Show or Paint Out 

  • Name of Painting

  • Name of Artist

  • Size of painting

  • Medium

  • Price - Painting prices must start at $75 and can go up from there.

  • Drop Off: Artists may select ONE painting to be juried and hung in the show.  

  • Drop Off is on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 8:00AM to 10:00AM at the Edson Keith Mansion at Phillippi Estate Park in Sarasota.

  •  Late paintings will not be accepted.

  • Pick Up:  Please be available to pick up your painting on Thursday evening, March 2, 2023 between 6:00PM & 7:30PM.

  • If you cannot Drop Off or Pick Up your paintings, please ask another artist for help. 

  • Light Chasers Board Members will not be available to drop off or pick up artists paintings.



Paint Out Rules & Requirements 


  • ELIGIBILITY: The Paint Sarasota Paint Out is open to all artists 18 years of age or older. You do not have to be a Light Chasers Member to participate in the Paint Out.

  • STAMPING: All artists must check in at the picnic tables that are located to the left of the front of the Edson Keith Mansion, in Phillippi Estate Park in Sarasota on Saturday, Feb. 11th, between 9:00AM & 11:00AM

  • Extra Stamping will be done on Tuesday, Feb. 14th, from 9:00AM to 10:00AM.  Artists may have as many surfaces stamped as they want. If you cannot make it on these 2 days, you may have another artist bring in your surfaces to be stamped. 

  • COST: Registration Fee for the Paint Sarasota Paint Out is $35.00.. No refunds after February 11, 2023. Payments must be made by cash, check or credit card when registering. 

  • WHERE TO PAINT: Artists may paint any where in Sarasota County. Sarasota County includes Bee Ridge, Englewood, Gulf Gates Estates, Laurel, Nokomis, North Port, North Sarasota, Osprey, Sarasota, Sarasota Springs, Siesta  Key, Southgate, South Venice, The Meadows, Vamo, Venice and Warm Mineral Springs.

  • We have DESIGNATED SPOTS FOR PAINTING EACH DAY, but artists can paint anywhere in Sarasota County, even in their backyards. If you want to be near other artists and potential buyers, you will want to paint in the daily designated areas. A list of Designated Paint Out painting spots and days will be given out when you Stamp-In your surfaces & pickup your gift bags.

  • MEDIUMS AND SIZES: Oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, pencils and markers are all acceptable. Electronic painting or photography is not accepted. Any other medium must be approved by MaryAnn Ellicott before February 20, 2023. There are size limitations as we are hanging three shows in the Mansion. The largest painting surface allowed is 12 inches by 16 inches. This DOES NOT include the frame. The only exception will be for watercolorists. We will accept 1/4 sheet painting or 12x16. If you wish to enter a larger  painting than the above listed sizes, it must be approved by MaryAnn Ellicott before February 20, 2023.

  • JUROR: Our Juror is a Light Chasers  Featured Artist. There will be no indoor award Ceremonies as in the past, due to the prevalence of Covid, Flu & RSV at this time. Our usual Award Ceremonies attract a large audience crowded into one room. For the safety of all, we will host the Award Ceremonies on the outside Terrace at the back of the Mansion, with the audience on the grassy area below the Terrace, at 4:30pm on Thursday, March 2nd, weather permitting. If it rains, there will be no Award Ceremony. The Award ribbons will be hung on the winning paintings in the Mansion.

  • ARTWORK: Paintings considered for awards must be on stamped surfaces and completed during the Paint Sarasota Paint Out!  Paint Out Paintings are exhibited on tables. Please bring your table easel to Drop Off. Make sure you have your full name & email address on this easel. You can purchase table easels at most art supply stores in metal or wood for $8-$25. Please bring one that is no taller than 25" & no wider than 18". Pick up for easels will be when you pick up any unsold artwork.

  • LABELS: Every painting submitted needs a TRACKING LABEL. Please bring this with you when you drop off your painting. If needed, blank labels will be available on drop off day. Be careful & precise when filling out these labels because they are used to make the cards that appear with your painting at the show.

  • Each label consists of 3 parts:

  • 1.) One part is to be attached (taped) to the back of the painting,

  • 2.) One part is given to the Light Chasers representative at Drop Off.

  • 3.) One part is kept by the artist & will be needed at Pick Up.

  • SALE: All works must be for sale. Artists will receive 100% of their sales. Off easel selling is not permitted. Artists who sell work off easel will be banned from future paint out events .If someone  wants to buy your painting they can "reserve" it by contacting MaryAnn Ellicott at A painting that is bought before jurying starts will still be eligible for prizes. During the Shows Light Chasers handle sales. We subtract the credit card fee, if that is how your buyer pays, from your total. Artists receive payment within 30 days.

  • SHOW DROP OFF: Artists may submit one painting from the Paint Out for jury awards. Drop Off is at the Edison Keith Mansion, on Wednesday, March 1st, from 8:00am to 10:00am. Late paintings will not be accepted. You can have another artist drop off your work.

  • FOOD AND HOUSING: We do not provide housing or meals. Restrooms are available at Phillippi Creek near the gazebo throughout the Paint Out.

  • WET ROOM FRAMING: Paintings should be framed & ready to hang at Drop Off. Cropped canvases are acceptable as long as they have toned or painted sides. Watercolors must be matted & framed. Framed pieces must be:

  • Wired with wired ends wrapped in tape Wire should be securely attached to the back of the frame. The wire should be about 1/3 down from the top of the frame.

  • Saw tooth hangers, fishing line or chain is not acceptable.

  • Mats, glass & plexiglass must be free of scratches & clean. Officers can choose not to accept any painting that does not meet requirements. There will be a table available to fix framing problems on Wednesday, March 1st, Drop Off Day. You need to provide your frame, wire & tools.

  • PICK UP: Unsold artwork must be up on Thursday evening, March 2nd, between 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Edson Keith Mansion. Any artwork that is not picked up will be taken home by a Light Chaser Member. There is a $5.00 fee for each day that the work is not picked up. Light Chaser Board Members will not mail or drop off your work or bring it to the field. You must make an appointment with the member storing your painting and pay your fine before you can pick up your painting. You can ask a friend or another artist to pick up your work. They will sign for it at pick up. Please have your Artist Copy of the 3 part label with you at Pick Up to present to the Light Chaser Representative.

  • LIABILITY: All Paint Sarasota Paint Out entries are submitted/left at the owner's risk. Although precautions are taken ,Phillippi Estate Park & Light Chasers are not responsible for damage or theft of paintings or frames for paintings in the Paint Out. Submission of work constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist to the provisions here set forth.

  • USE OF IMAGES: Any artist participating in the Paint Out consents to the use of his/her name and the artist's image(s) for purposes or promotion and advertisement  by The Light Chasers. The artist waives any claim, including any claim for invasion of the right to of privacy or copyright against The Light Chasers, their directors, officers, employees and agents.
