Paint Sarasota Paint Out & Show

QUICK FACTS:

  • Paint Out Dates: Thursday, March 7 - Wednesday, March 13, 2024

  • Entry Fee: $35.00

  • Judging: Judging will take place before the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

  • Stamping: The work you submit for judging must be stamped on the back of your painting surface

  • We will stamp surfaces at the Picnic Tables, located to the left of the Edson Keith Mansion at Phillippi Estate Park, in Sarasota. Stamping of painting surfaces will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2024, between 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM, and also on Friday, March 8, 2024, between 9:00 AM & 10:00 AM at the Bay Preserve in Osprey.

  • GPS: Phillippi Estate Park, 5500 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL. 34231

  • GPS: Bay Preserve, 400 Palmetto Dr., Osprey, FL. 34229

  • Sales: Palm Avenue Fine Art will receive 50% of any sales. Artists will keep 50% of their sales. All sale prices of paintings must start at $300.00.

  • Drop Off:

  • Artists may select ONE painting to be juried and hung in the show. Drop Off is on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Palm Avenue Fine Art, in Sarasota. Late paintings will not be accepted.

  • Pick Up:

  • Please be available to pick up your painting on Monday, April 29, 2024. Exact Drop Off & Pick Up times will be announced at a later date.

  • If you cannot drop off or pick up your paintings, please ask another artist for help. Light Chasers Board Members will not be available to drop off or pick up artists' paintings.

Paint Sarasota Paint Out Rules & Requirements

  • ELIGIBILITY: The Paint Sarasota Paint Out is open to all artists 18 years of age or older.

  • STAMPING: All artists must check in at the picnic tables located to the left of the Edson Keith Mansion front, in Phillippi Estate Park in Sarasota, on Thursday, March 7th, between 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM. Extra Stamping will be done on Friday, March 8th, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Bay Preserve in Osprey. Artists may have as many surfaces stamped as they want. If you cannot make it on these 2 days, you may have another artist bring in your surfaces to be stamped.

  • COST: Registration Fee for the Paint Sarasota Paint Out is $35.00. No refunds after March 7, 2024. Payments must be made by cash or check only when registering.

  • WHERE TO PAINT: Artists may paint anywhere in Sarasota County, including Bee Ridge, Englewood, Gulf Gates Estates, Laurel, Nokomis, North Port, North Sarasota, Osprey, Sarasota, Sarasota Springs, Siesta Key, Southgate, South Venice, The Meadows, Vamo, Venice, and Warm Mineral Springs. Designated spots for painting each day will be provided, but artists can paint anywhere in Sarasota County. If you want to be near other artists and potential buyers, you will want to paint in the daily designated areas. A list of designated Paint Out painting spots and days will be given out when you Stamp-In your surfaces and pick up your gift bags.

  • MEDIUMS AND SIZES: Oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, pencils, and markers are all acceptable. Electronic painting or photography is not accepted. Any other medium must be approved by MaryAnn Ellicott before March 7, 2024. Size limitations apply, and the largest painting surface allowed is 12 inches by 16 inches (excluding the frame), except for watercolorists who can submit 1/4 sheet painting or 12x16 (excluding the frame). No exceptions this year.

  • JUROR: The juror is a featured artist, and awards will be announced on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The exact time of the Awards Ceremony will be announced at a later date.

  • ARTWORK: Paintings considered for awards must be on stamped surfaces and completed during the Paint Sarasota Paint Out. Paintings are exhibited on tables. Please bring your table easel to Drop Off. Make sure you have your full name & email address on this easel. You can purchase table easels at most art supply stores in metal or wood for $8-$25. Please bring one that is no taller than 25" & no wider than 18". Pick up for easels will be when you pick up any unsold artwork.

  • LABELS: Every painting submitted needs a 3 PART TRACKING LABEL. Please bring this with you when you drop off your painting. If needed, blank labels will be available on drop-off day. Be careful & precise when filling out these labels because they are used to make the cards that appear with your painting at the show.

  1. One part is to be attached (taped) to the back of the painting.

  2. One part is given to the Light Chasers representative at Drop Off.

  3. One part is kept by the artist & will be needed at Pick Up.

  • SALES: Sale Prices of paintings must start at $300.00. Palm Avenue Fine Art will receive 50% of any sale. Artists will receive 50% of their sales. Your Painting DOES NOT HAVE to be for Sale. You can mark your entry NFS or Not For Sale. Off-easel selling is not permitted. Artists who sell work off easel will be banned from future paint-out events. If someone wants to buy your painting, they can "reserve" it by contacting MaryAnn Ellicott at lightchasersinc@gmail.com.

  • SHOW DROP OFF: Artists may submit one painting from the Paint Out for jury awards. Drop Off is at Palm Avenue Fine Art on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024. Exact Drop Off Time will be announced at a later date. Late paintings will not be accepted. You can have another artist drop off your work.

  • FOOD AND HOUSING: Housing or meals are not provided. Restrooms are available at each location throughout the Paint Out.

  • WET ROOM FRAMING: Paintings should be framed & ready to hang at Drop Off. Cropped canvases are acceptable as long as they have toned or painted sides. Watercolors must be matted & framed. Framed pieces must be wired with wired ends wrapped in tape. The wire should be securely attached to the back of the frame, about 1/3 down from the top. Sawtooth hangers, fishing line, or chain is not acceptable. Mats, glass & plexiglass must be free of scratches & clean. Officers can choose not to accept any painting that does not meet requirements.

  • PICK UP: Unsold artwork must be picked up on Monday, April 29th. The exact times of Pick-Up will be announced at a later date. Any artwork that is not picked up will be taken home by a Light Chaser Member. There is a $5.00 fee for each day that the work is not picked up. Light Chaser Board Members will not mail or drop off your work or bring it to the field. You must make an appointment with the member storing your painting and pay your fine before you can pick up your painting. You can ask a friend or another artist to pick up your work. They will sign for it at pick up. Please have your Artist Copy of the 3-part label with you at Pick Up to present to the Light Chaser Representative.

  • LIABILITY: All Paint Sarasota Paint Out entries are submitted/left at the owner's risk. Although precautions are taken, Palm Avenue Fine Art & Light Chasers are not responsible for damage or theft of paintings or frames for paintings in the Paint Out. Submission of work constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist to the provisions set forth.

  • USE OF IMAGES: Any artist participating in the Paint Out consents to the use of his/her name and the artist's image(s) for purposes of promotion and advertisement by The Light Chasers. The artist waives any claim, including any claim for invasion of the right to privacy or copyright against The Light Chasers, their directors, officers, employees, and agents.
